Our History
Mount Pleasant Baptist Church has been a beacon of faith, hope, and community for more than 150 years. Established in 1870, our church was founded on a simple mission: to glorify God, share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and serve our community with love.
Our journey began in a humble one-room cabin with shutter windows, a dirt floor, and wooden slab seating. As God blessed the congregation with growth, additional land was acquired, allowing the church to expand while remaining steadfast in its commitment to biblical truth.
Throughout our history, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church has overcome many challenges. In 1928, a devastating tornado caused significant damage to the church. Through God's grace and the unwavering faith of its members, the building was restored, demonstrating the resilience and determination that continues to define our church family.
A major milestone came in 1953 with the completion of our present sanctuary under the leadership of Rev. J.B. Bailey. This new brick sanctuary provided a more modern place of worship and marked the beginning of many years of continued growth and improvement.
Over the decades, the church has continued to expand its ministry and facilities. Improvements have included the installation of indoor plumbing, new pews and carpeting, the construction of a Fellowship Hall and classrooms, accessibility upgrades, sanctuary renovations, conference rooms, additional restrooms, and beautifully landscaped grounds.
One of the most memorable moments in our history occurred in 1988, when the sanctuary was accidentally damaged by fire during the installation of stained-glass windows. Through faith, determination, and God's provision, the sanctuary was fully restored within just a few months. A special rededication service was held on June 19, 1988, celebrating both the restoration of the building and the enduring spirit of our church family.
Today, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church continues to stand as a testimony to God's faithfulness. While our buildings have changed throughout the years, our foundation has remained the same—faith in Jesus Christ, love for one another, and a commitment to serving our community.

Our Legacy
1870 – Mount Pleasant Baptist Church was established.
1899 – Additional church property was purchased to accommodate future growth.
1928 – The church was restored after sustaining significant tornado damage.
1953 – The present sanctuary was completed under the leadership of Rev. J.B. Bailey.
1960 – Indoor plumbing and the church's first well were installed.
1962–1972 – Numerous improvements were made, including new pews, carpeting, landscaping, and the purchase of a new piano.
1978 – A Fellowship Hall, Sunday School classrooms, kitchen, and common gathering area were added.
1986 – A new steeple was installed.
1988 – Stained-glass windows were installed, the sanctuary was restored following a fire, and the church was rededicated on June 19.
2010 – A conference room and additional restroom were added.
2019 – The sanctuary, vestibule, and front restroom were renovated.
2020 – Landscaping improvements enhanced the beauty of the church grounds.
